If your credit card does not work, it can create some issues when picking up the rental car. It also depends on which side is at fault. If the rental company is at fault, such as a malfunctioning terminal, ask for written confirmation of the situation and find out if there is another way to get the car.
If, on the other hand, the fault lies on your side, e.g. your card does not have enough funds to cover the deposit, has expired, is not a credit card, is not in the name of the main driver or is not accepted by the rental company (this information should be in the rental conditions already at the time of booking), then the rental company may refuse to give you the car or offer insurance.
