Everything was very straightforward, I was asked to buy additional insurance by Avis for breakdown etc, so it would have been useful to understand this wasn't included in the quoted price - if it was stated it wasn't obvious. It would be useful for you or the rental companies to provide more information on how pick up and drop offs work at the specific airports. Finding the drop off place a San Francisco was not great, as the address stated and google maps puts them in slightly different places - and the attendant joked that finding the garage wasn't easy.

Going here is probably the best way to jumpstart your visit in the city, as it will explain a lot of things about Georgia that you wouldn't get to know otherwise. Thus, you can deal with the locals more easily. Another place worth going to is the Augusta Canal area. With an admission price that's relatively cheap (worth only 6 dollars), you can take a guided tour around the area. You can also do fun activities such as hiking, canoeing, biking, and kayaking.
